“Bringing the music to the people.” That is the unifying vision behind Balcony Bridge, the four-piece Fremont, Seattle-based rock band. Comprised of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Julian Pearlman, lead guitarist Sean Moran, bassist Jacob Longhurst, and drummer Jack Moran, Balcony Bridge often performs for free in parks across Seattle, intending to deconstruct barriers between creatives and art lovers that often result from the financialization of art.
Their hard-driving neo-classic rock sound is unmistakable but somehow familiar. Julian’s vocal prowess allows him to deliver a performance that ranges from the sophisti-pop agility of a crooner to the distorted guttural realness of a punk screamer that defined so much of Seattle’s grunge era. Sean’s intricate and thoughtful guitar playing can hint at big arena rock but also dispel pretension by delivering heavy doses of self-aware disruptive sonic scenery. Jacob’s driving danceable bass groves will keep listeners on their feet and dancing through the band’s journeys of raw emotion, complex ideation, and playful self-awareness. Jack’s jazz and indie-inspired rock beats are the conjugate base for Balcony Bridge’s addictive sound.
Balcony Bridge started when Julian and Sean met at the Sunday Farmers Market in Fremont. After frequenting local open mics, the duo decided to start a band after meeting Jack at a local jam space. With original songs in their repertoire from a few months of playing together, the trio decided to head back to that jam space to attempt recording. Balcony Bridge took final form when Jacob was brought into that session to play bass on some songs and joined the band shortly after. For the last year, Balcony Bridge has been the self proclaimed busiest band in Seattle playing multiple park shows a week to bring the music back to the people while building a grass roots fan base. Performing in public parks is an important part of Balcony Bridge’s mission.
